Device Testing Information

Thank you for your interest in testing your supported device's ability to send an SOS alert to the IERCC. In order to initiate an SOS alert, your device must have an active satellite, cellular or other communication network service plan. Below, you’ll find information on how to test your device.

Do I have to submit a request to test my device?
Yes! You must submit a test request every time you wish to test your device. If the IERCC is not aware that you are testing, local emergency services and your emergency contacts could be contacted, and you could incur additional charges.

How can I request to test my device?
You must request a test from the IERCC by submitting a completed test request form at least 72 hours prior to your requested testing time. Testing is available Monday through Thursday. You can access the test request form by clicking on the “Request a Test” button below. Once you have submitted your request, the IERCC will send you an email to confirm the test date/time and provide additional testing instructions.

How much does it cost to test my device or use my device to activate an SOS alert?
The IERCC does not directly charge you a fee when you use your device to initiate an SOS alert, including when you test your device, unless you intentionally or negligently misuse the service. If rescue authorities or other third parties provide assistance to you, they may charge you a fee for the services they perform. In addition, the manufacturer or provider of your device, the provider of your communication network service plan and/or other third parties may charge you fees in relation to the use of your device, including activating an SOS alert. You are responsible for all of those fees. However, you may purchase an SAR membership benefit (prior to your trip) that is designed to help cover or reimburse a member for certain costs related to search and rescue services incurred by the member up to the applicable maximum for the benefit. Terms and conditions apply.
